So...What do you want to do? Why?
I realized that I make all of my choices based on what I want to do. I want to change the world, I want to help people achieve their dreams, I want to affect every life I come in contact with in a positive way. By aligning my decisions on a daily basis with this end goal, I have made many steps in the right direction. When I was asked; Do you want to teach a high school class once a week on behavior design? It was easy for me to say yes because it allowed me to help people I came in contact with. When I thought about writing a blog, I just had to think about how important being able to communicate my ideas with others was for creating change in the world. When I thought about basketball, med school, and behavior design, I decided to pursue a career in behavior design because I saw the potential it had to transform people's lives on a grand scale.
By knowing what I want to do, it makes all my decisions easier. It also helps me to set up and design behaviors that will help me reach my goals. Without this knowledge it would be easy for me to take a job or to do things that might be fun and interesting right now but would not be fulfilling in the long term because they don't align with what I want.
Without knowing what or why, you can never get to the how, and, as I have found, many times once you figure out the what and the why, the how takes care of itself. (for an amazing and powerful book on this topic check out Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill).
In this upcoming series (and very well where I might go permanently with my blog ) I will talk about the behaviors I have designed into my life and how I have done it. Some of them are things anyone can do, and some are just crazy things I do. My hope is that by going through the process I have adopted for building habits and behaviors, it will spark your imagination about what is possible and how to design behaviors into your life that you have always wanted.
Happy Tuesday!
